Obviously, durability is key in selecting the right carpet for high-traffic areas. Many manufacturers will put carpet performance ratings on the label as a guide for consumers. Rated from 1 to 5, the scale represents the carpet’s ability to withstand extended wear.

A rating of 4 or 5 would be a good choice for high-traffic area.

How did they determine this? College kids. They set the carpet in high traffic areas and count the steps it takes to show wear. They also may put a piece of carpet on a turntable device and roll an abrasive pad on it.

Various things make up a high performing carpet. Price is not one of them no matter how great a deal you got.

Remember, if it was worth more they would charge more.
